New Features – What do you think?

Over the past few weeks, we have added quite a few new features to My Recipe Book.  Let us know what you think about them and how they’re working for you.

  1. I really like your App and have started to add all my own stuff. Just one little issue I have found is that the cooking time is not sways remembered correctly, if it is hours and mins. I can get it to save correctly my just putting in say “240” mins, which is then correctly listed. But if I put in 3 hrs 30 mins, it just saves 30 mins.

Have I found a bug or is it just me?

    Keep up the goof work

    • Meant good work.

    • You found a bug – we’re working on a fix for it – thanks!

  2. Ever since I downloaded the upgrade, I have not been able to use the program. When I click it, the start button comes up to install the upgrade. I push it, then it closes the program. Does this every time I open it.

  3. If you are taking requests for future upgrades, could you make it possible to add addition Categories. I would love to break desserts into sub-categories. Ex: Cookies, Cakes, Bars, Pies, etc. That would make this app perfect.

  4. I love this app… and the updates are great! I especially like the ingredient headers and ingredient recall. I was disappointed to lose the option to backup with Dropbox, though… I don’t plug my iPad in to sync often and it was nice to have the backup anytime I made changes to my recipes.

  5. Is there any plans to have an update for printing these recipes out?

  6. I love this app!! Great work.

2 requests 🙂 – please allow the grocery list to be sorted by department- ie dairy, veggies, etc

Also, if I need to double a recipe – the shopping list does not update with the new quantities- that feature would be great.

    Thanks again!

  7. WHY!! did you end dropbox support? Who syncs to itunes on a regular basis? I love the app but this is a deal killer for me. Could you please shed some light on this decision?

    • Agree here! Please put back the Dropbox support.. Please please!!

  8. I’ve been using the app for about a week and am enjoying it. Now I can get rid of all the printout recipes cluttering my kitchen. I would really like to be able to copy and paste recipes from Word and other websites. Also a monthly or weekly menu option would be great.

  9. I will buy a recipe app only if it includes back up features and a calendar for meal planning that works with a grocery list, I hope someone does this soon…

  10. Please add nutrition information for ingredients and recipes! Please please please!

  11. Love the app and moving to iPad for recipes. I really hope future upgrades will allow import of recipes from other apps. I have several hundred on PDAcookbook and would love to import them.

  12. I know I must be missing it but is there a way to scale recipes in the IPad version? Also is there plans to add a way to calculate nutritional information for a recipe (calories, protein, carbs, etc)?

    • Yes – you can scale the recipes – just touch the icon with the little spoon and big spoon, and you can scale up or down as you would like. We’ve gotten a lot of requests for nutritional information to be included, so we may be adding it in the future.

  13. Is turre any way to sync or backup the recipes? If dont, it would be a great addiction to a future update.

    • How can I back-up my data?
You can now back up your data through iTunes Check the video tutorials for an instruction video on how to back-up, or follow the steps below.
1 Touch the settings icon in the upper left corner
      2 Touch the Backup/Restore button
3 Touch the Run Backup Mode button
4 Connect your device to your computer, and allow iTunes to sync and back-up your data
5 With the device still connected, make sure the name of your device is selected in the left column
6 Across the top of the right side of the iTunes window, summary is usually selected, with a summary of your iPad. Select the “Apps” button instead.
7 Scroll to the bottom, and you will see the File Sharing Section
8 Click on Recipe Book, and you will see several files under RecipeBook? Documents
9 Highlight the folder called BACKUPFOLDER, it should have today’s date on it, if you ran backup mode today
10 In the bottom right, click the Save To button
11 Navigate to the location on your computer that you would like to save your back-up and click Choose
12 The folder will save to the selected drive on your computer
13 If you open the folder, you will notice image files as well as a database file called RecipeBook?.sqlite – this is the backed up database of your recipes, and you will not be able to open the file and check it, or read it on your computer since it is a database file. This is the file that will restore your recipes if anything happens to your device

How do I restore my files if something has happened to my device? 1 Touch the settings icon in the upper left corner
      2 Touch the Backup/Restore button
3 Touch the Run Restore Mode button
      4 Close the app
5 Connect your device to the computer
6 Find the File Sharing section in iTunes that you used to create the back-up
      7 Highlight Recipe Book
      8 Click the Add button
9 Select all the files within the BACKUPFOLDER on your hard drive, if it asks you to overwrite the files in there, click yes
10 Start the My Recipe Book app
11 The app will take a few minutes to run the import, be patient and don’t close out of the app or the restore won’t complete
12 The app will open normally after that, and the recipes from your back-up will be there

  14. It will be very nice if we can log in to a website from a computer to update our own recipes, and found them on our Ipad after. I have all my recipes on my computer it will be simpler to copy and paste them, plus I love my Ipad but it’S much faster on a computer. Storage and browsing is good on Ipad but i rather use a real computer for the input.

    • Thanks for the suggestion.

  15. Crashes when I try to view the grocery list. Very disappointed!

  16. Love this App but agree with Mike k. It need nutritional values!!

  17. How can I tell if I have the most recent version of the app?

  18. Awesome app. A few feature requests/bugs from a fellow (non-competing) developer:
-when changing quntity (like doubling a recipe), it does not update the shopping list.
-please add a way to simplify the interface. The cutting board/notebook metaphor is cute, but some just prefer boring old iPad-like backgrounds.
-also, consider a “chef’s interface” that uses large type on a plain background, and next steps can be advanced with a simple tap or swipe.
-add a list view option to the main page. The pictures are cute, but too small to be helpful and just take up space.

This is a fantastic app. The importing is almost flawless, and I love the features. I use this app to plan meals, plan parties, and even keep some cocktail recipes in there.

    Great work, overall!

  19. Great app!! I use it all the time!

I’ve seen the comment already in this thread… Would be great to be able to encode nutritional values for a recipe!
