How to back-up in the new iTunes

With the latest update to iTunes, how you get to the shared files has changed.  Here’s how you find the backup files now.

First, run the back-up within the My Recipe Book app on the settings screen.  Then attach your iPad to your computer.

Then, open iTunes.  It will probably open to the iTunes store.  In the upper right corner, click the Library button.

After that, you will see the library with your music, etc.  In the upper right, it will show that you have a device connected.  Touch the button, and it will show the devices you have connected.  Touch the name of the iPad you want to download from.

Once you are on the page of your iPad, you will see what looks like the old iTunes screen, with the bar at the top that has Summary, Info, Apps, etc.  Touch the apps button.  You will see all of your apps listed.  Scroll to the bottom, and you will see the File Sharing section.  Tap the Recipe Book icon, and you will see the backup files there.

  1. I have completed these steps several times but seem to have lost all 288 recipes! Many were created by me for my personal chef business. Any ideas / suggestions?

  2. I love this app. Is it available for the iphone yet?

  3. I am frustrated with this app, that I really love, because they recipes that I backed up from my iPad 2 and copied over to my new iPad 4 w/Retina, do NOT SHOW UP. I have followed every instruction to a T and the only thing I can think of is that the version on my new iPad is newer, so may not be compatible with the recipe files I had on my old iPad. Can someone please call me and help me figure this out. The app data and database have been successfully copied to the new iPad, but they do not show up when I open the app. I am so tired of trying to make this work.

My phone number is 703-430-6261. I have spend so much time on this and paid for the app twice because it was not in the cloud, probably because it’s a newer version.

Can my files even be loaded or do I have to do this all over again?

    • Did you update your iPad app? If so, go into the Help & Settings screen, then touch the setup kitchensync button, and you will see the log-in there. Once you are logged in, it should start the initial sync.

Once you are sure you are logged into the same account on both devices. Then, on the device that isn’t updating, pull down on the all recipes a-z list which should refresh the sync.

  4. I have tried multiple times to search for a recipe using one of the ones on the drop down box in Easy Import. I select the site, type in the item I want to find a recipe for, and hit search. That’s when it stops – no recipes appear. This is a new app for me and I successfully downloaded a recipe the first time I used it, but today it doesn’t seem to work, even after turning my IPad off and on again. Please help as this app seems great when it works.

    • Please try restarting the app by double tapping the home button, which will bring up all the apps along the bottom of the screen that are currently running on your device. Touch and hold an app until they all start wiggling, and touch the red minus in the upper left corner of the app you would like to close. Then touch the home button to stop the rest of the apps from wiggling. Then, re-open the app you closed by touching the icon.

  5. Will this recipe work on Note Pad by Samsung. Got for Christmas and like the looks of your recipe book.
    Thank You, Jo

    • No – this is an iPhone and iPad only app

  6. Can I use this exact app with my Samsung Galaxy tablet. I love this app, my mom and all my aunts and cousins are all recipe sharing.

  7. This app has been great over the last 6 months but starting a few days ago it crashes every time I try to open it before I even see a recipe. How to fix???

    • This issue has been fixed in a recent update, please try again.

  8. How can I copy my recipes onto two different iPads?

    • Go into the Help & Settings screen, then touch the setup kitchensync button, and you will see the log-in there. Once you are logged in, it should start the initial sync. Then, log into the same kitchensync account on your other device, and it will sync.

  9. Hello, after updating the app a few weeks ago the app now crashes when I try to open it – it opens and I see the background but no recipes, and then about 5-10 seconds later it closes. Please suggest how I might fix this (as I hadn’t backed up in awhile, I’m hoping to do so without losing my recipes). Thanks so much.

    • This issue has been fixed in a recent update, please try again.

  10. Love this app, but as of last night, it stopped opening. I’ve restarted my iPad a couple of times with no luck. Please tell me there is a way to save my recipes without having to delete & reinstall. I didn’t realize there was a way to sync w/iTunes & save/backup all recipes. I love this app & have recommended it to many people. I don’t want to loose it & all my hard work!

  11. I have been using MYRecipeBook on my iPad & Ipad mini for a while & love it, however I just got a new Imac was shocked to find there is no Mac app to sync with. :( Have I missed it somewhere, or is this something to come in the future? I would definitely be willing to pay for a mac version!!

  12. How can I get this app?

  13. Hi

I used Custom Import for the recipe at the link -

    http://www.stayathomemum.com.au/recipes/baking/moist-chocolate-cake/

once imported and ready to make the cake, I thought that it was rather odd for the amount of sugar (and flour) that was stipulated to be used in the recipe.

On going back to double check the web page, where I found the recipe, I noticed that when doing the Custom Import the amount of sugar had changed from 1 and a 1/4 cups to 2 and 3/4 cups of sugar. I deleted and Custom Imported the recipe twice to make sure it was changing, which it was (it also changed the quantity of flour in the recipe).

I now know why the results of a couple of previous recipes were tossed in the bin. :)

    Can you help please?

    Cheers

    Lynne

PS: other than the above, I love the Recipe Book app. :D

  14. I would really like to be able to have the ability to sync my recipe book with family members instead of either manually importing or emailing them the recipes. That way everyone is putting in their recipes on their own and we are always current. Then we can start off with a list of recipes that have already been entered and work forward from there.

I just have to say thank you so much for such an amazing app that has saved me from literally lugging around my recipe box when I travel. My suitcase seems so much lighter now :-)

  15. Hi. You give no way to contact you on the webpage, so I figured you might read a comment. Thanks for the update and the iPhone version!! They are fabulous!! Is there going to be an iMac version that I can sync on my Mac coming any time soon? That would really put this app over the moon!

    Thanks for your time :-)

  16. I love this app! But I downloaded the update, added a few new recipes, and now it has crashed. It won’t open. I touch the icon and it opens to the wallpaper for a second then closes.

I haven’t had a chance to back it up to iTunes yet either, so I’m afraid of deleting and reloading the app.

  17. Hey everyone at ‘My Recipe Book’!! Thanks not only for a great app but for such a simple way to backup all of my recipes.

    Phil Giriodi

  18. Once ihave found the file sharing for my recipe book backup, how do I transfer them to my MacBook and update the files and sync them back to the iPad myrecipebook app files. It is not clear to me how to keep them both sync with the recipe files.

  19. I have been so enjoying your recipe book app and am on the process of entering my favourite recipes. For some reason, the app on my iPad is not working, I press it, it opens momentarily and then closes again. Please help! I have spent ages entering my data and would hate to loose it all. I have the app on my iPhone and I see my data is there. Should I delete the app and then reinstore it?
I look forward to hearing from you.
    Regards, Dianne

  20. My Recipe Book has crashed! I was importing a recipe and it shut down. I tried to open it up again and the wood screen saver page came up, but immediately closed. I closed all of the apps that I had been running and it still wouldn’t load. I have turned off my iPad 3 times, but it still isn’t working. I was going to delete the app and reinstall, but it said if I did that all data would be lost. I have well over 100 recipes and really don’t want to lose these. Any suggestions?

  21. Is there a way to EXPORT the recipes in some sort of document format? Or any format?

  22. I cannot open my recipe book app. I was importing recipes this morning from the cooking light easy import, the app quit, since then it doesnot open. Please help, I use this everyday.
    Thanks
    Kathy

  23. When I open recipe book on my iPad the app opens for a few seconds and then quits. I’ve tried resetting the iPad, restarted the app, my iPad is up to date, recipe book is up to date, installed another app from iTunes and it works. I have not backed up my recipe database and would prefer not to lose my recipes. Can you help?

  24. I only get the pctures of the recipe when i transfer over to my computer not the words. Any ideas why this happens?

  25. I love this app! I have been diligently adding all my favourite recipes over the last year! I have added in all those recipes by hand from scrappy pieces of paper! I have enjoyed how easy it is to access my fav recipes and share them with friends! Last night I added a risotto recipe from Taste.com and the app crashed and won’t load up any more. I click on the app and it brings the wall up and goes back to the icon. I have not backed up the app and I am very worried! Does this mean I have overloaded the app and it is dead forever? Can you help me try and resurrect it? I look forward to your response! Help! Please?

  26. All my content disappeared.

  27. Today I added a new website since then I can’t open the app.
Just goes back to home page.
I have had this happen before, most annoying is it because of the site I added ? The trouble is I can’t back up from the app,and I have backed up to cloud since it went wrong, doesn’t that mean even if I restore I’m stuck with a corrupt program

  29. Will this allow the recipes added through iPad app to sync with the iPhone app?

  30. My recipe app keeps crashing every time I try to open it. I have numerous recipes typed in there that I cannot get to. I went to my computer and plugged my iPad to it. I found the the tembackup dated 4/24/13. I tried to sync with my iPad to restore the files but it does not work. Can you advise how to resolve this?

    • I am having the same problem.have you found out how to resolve this?

      • I have not been able to open my recipe app. It starts to open and then shuts off. I have all my recipes in this app. How can I retrieve them? I don’t think I am the only one with this problem. What are you doing to fix this and when. Help!

  31. HELP!
Whenever I click on the app icon to open app, my iPad screen immediately goes to a wood backround & then closes, not giving me acces to the app or any of my recipes. I have tried everything, including calling Apple for support. PLEASE Help! This is the 2nd time I’ve had problems with this app. I haven’t had problems with any other apps. I would really like some help to resolve this problem…..such a good app! When it works.

  32. Hi< I decided to do a backup to my computer as I was concerned that if you all went away I would lose lots of recipes I love. I followed the instructions for back up which were for a much earlier version of I tunes. When I opened file there was a picture (if their was one) with some sort of computer code below. But when you double click on the pix their is no recipe. Is there a way to save the actual recipes to my computer just in case. Tried several times and only have pix. Thanks

  33. My app won’t let me in anymore! It crashes within a second of entry. Help! I need it!

  34. What if you don’t have an iPad but an iPhone that has all the recipes on it
